Biases in CMIP6 Historical U.S. Severe Convective Storm Environments Driven by Biases in Mean‐State Near‐Surface Moist Static Energy

چکیده

Abstract This work evaluates how well Coupled Model Intercomparison Project 6 models reproduce the climatology of North American severe convective storm (SCS) environments in ERA5 reanalysis and examines what drives biases across models. Biases spring SCS vary widely magnitude spatial pattern, though most do reproducing climatological pattern a few (MPI CNRM) also overall magnitude. are driven by extreme available potential energy. These ultimately found to be mean‐state near‐surface moist static energy, indicating that depend strongly on mean state. Results similar for fall, but not summer or winter when free‐tropospheric important. differ parent weakly child same parent. outcomes help identify well‐suited studying climate effects environments.

Spatial Distributions of Tornadic Near-Storm Environments by Convective Mode

The characteristics of near-storm environments have been elucidated by several studies of observed soundings near reported tornadoes (Maddox 1976; Kerr and Darkow 1996), all soundings for multiple severe weather hazards during a complete year (Rasmussen and Blanchard 1998), or long-period samples of soundings associated with severe thunderstorms (Craven and Brooks 2004). Meanwhile, much attenti...

Behavioral Finance Models and Behavioral Biases in Stock Price Forecasting

Stock market is affected by news and information. If the stock market is not efficient, the reaction of stock price to news and information will place the stock market in overreaction and under-reaction states. Many models have been already presented by using different tools and techniques to forecast the stock market behavior. In this study, the reaction of stock price in the stock market was ...

Evidential equilibria: Heuristics and biases in static games

Standard equilibrium concepts in game theory find it diffi cult to explain the empirical evidence in a large number of static games such as prisoners’ dilemma, voting, public goods, oligopoly, etc. Under uncertainty about what others will do in one-shot games of complete and incomplete information, evidence suggests that people often use evidential reasoning (ER), i.e., they assign diagnostic s...

Social sampling explains apparent biases in judgments of social environments.

How people assess their social environments plays a central role in how they evaluate their life circumstances. Using a large probabilistic national sample, we investigated how accurately people estimate characteristics of the general population. For most characteristics, people seemed to underestimate the quality of others' lives and showed apparent self-enhancement, but for some characteristi...

Preference-driven biases in decision makers’ information search and evaluation

While it is well established that the search for information after a decision is biased toward supporting that decision, the case of preference-supporting search before the decision remains open. Three studies of consumer choices consistently found a complete absence of a pre-choice bias toward searching for preference-supporting information. The absence of this confirming search bias occurred ...
